As previously stated, none of the show's primary cast members, including Lauria, were MMA or UFC fighters. In reality, he acknowledged in show-related interviews that he was not a fan of the UFC or MMA in general prior to playing this character. However, after joining the show, he said he became interested in the sport and started watching some fights on YouTube.
Lauria also had some other misconceptions about the show and its characters before joining. For example, he thought John Cena was the boss of The Miz on the show, when in fact The Miz is the boss of both men. He also believed Daniel Bryan was signed to WWE when actually he's just one of many wrestlers who have auditioned for the role of WWE's new champion.
In any case, Lauria said he enjoyed his time on WWE TV and hopes to return if given the opportunity.

Lauria was born on January 4th, 1981 in San Diego, California. He began training in karate at the age of four and became a black belt by age six. By eight years old, he was also studying tae kwon do. When he was nine years old, his family moved to Van Nuys, which is near Los Angeles. There he continued his martial art training and also started learning kickboxing. At 13 years old, he entered his first professional fight, which was a kickboxing match. He won this fight by knockout within three minutes.
After this early success, he decided to try out for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) wrestling team. However, he was not accepted into the program. Instead, he turned his attention to wrestling-style karate, which is different from traditional karate-do. Around this time, he also began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
He is most recognized for his appearances on the NBC/DirecTV drama Friday Night Lights as Luke Cafferty, Ryan York on the NBC family drama Parenthood, and Ryan Wheeler on the audience drama Kingdom. Lauria will star on the crime drama CSI: Vegas in 2021.
He has also appeared in The Twilight Zone episode "The Invaders" and its remake series The Twilight Zone: Revisited. He also had a role in the film No Reservations.
In addition to acting, Matt Lauria is known for writing songs that he performs with his band including songs written by Paul Stanley (of KISS), Billy Corgan (of The Smashing Pumpkins), and Neil Finn (of Crowded House).

He is the youngest son of Ken and Linda Hume. When he was only 10 years old, he started training in kenpo under his father's instruction. At the age of 12, he began studying jeet kune do with Carlson Gracie Jr., who was then teaching around New York City. Later on, he moved to Florida where he continued his training under Royce Gracie and others. In 1998, he returned to his home country of Canada where he currently resides.
Hume has stated that he believes he has an advantage over most opponents because he knows how they will try to fight him. He said this in an interview with Sherdog.com.
The UFC veteran was originally scheduled to face Antonio Tarver. That fight, however, did not go as planned. Mir has been an athlete his entire life and is a renowned MMA fighter. He is also known for his wrestling background. Mir has won all of his fights by submission and has never been defeated.
Mir has been called many things over the years including "the man who will be king", "the natural", and the "man of a thousand faces". These titles are usually given out by fans online but they do not carry any weight. Mir has said that he does not care about these awards.
He has also been criticized for having too many facial injuries which some people say have prevented him from securing further fights. However, others claim that this is just part of his game and that he likes to use these injuries as motivation when fighting.

Laudrup represented a variety of European clubs during his brief playing career, which was finally cut short due to injury. He began his career with the Danish team Brondby, where he won two Danish titles in the late 1980s. He then played for German and Italian clubs, winning the Serie A and the UEFA Champions League with AC Milan in 1993-94. After one season with Inter Milan, Laudrup returned to Denmark where he played three more seasons with Brondby before retiring due to another knee injury.
After ending his playing career, Laudrup took over as player-manager at Brondby, helping them win the 1996 Danish Cup. He later became the manager of Barcelona, leading the club to its first Spanish title in 1998 and its second European Cup in 2001. In 2004, Laudrup moved to Germany and took over as manager of Schalke 04, leading the club to the Bundesliga title in his first season. However, he lost his job just three months into the following season after failing to lead the club out on time during a game against Borussia Dortmund. He has been working as a television pundit since then.
In 2010, Laudrup returned to management by taking over as coach of Copenhagen who had just been relegated from the top flight. He led them to immediately return to the top division by finishing first in the league table. In 2011, he moved to Greece and took charge of Olympiacos. He helped the club win the Greek championship and the Greek Cup in his only season there.
