For Bruins and Celtics playoff games, the Garden will be virtually full, with tarps separating the seating bowl from the ice and court. But for most other events, such as music concerts or family shows, about 1,000 people can fit in the Garden.
The Garden has a total capacity of 18,119 for basketball, which includes a 7,200-seat arena section called the "Boston Garden Arena." The remaining 12,719 seats are in a traditional stadium setting.
In addition to sports events, major concerts and performances are held at the Garden. It has been the home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team since 1995. Before then, it was known as the Boston Garden (1968-95).
The original Boston Garden opened on October 30, 1968. It was built at a cost of $14 million by architect John Volpe and featured an open-air design with a roof that could be retracted when necessary. The Garden was one of the first multi-purpose arenas in the United States. It was also the first major professional sports venue in New England. The original Boston Garden was closed on December 14, 1995, after the last game was played there - a Red Sox loss to the Chicago Cubs. A new Boston Garden was built about a block away from the old one.

The Bruins played their first game at Boston Arena on March 21, 1924 when they lost to Philadelphia Flyers 5-3. They ended up playing one more game that season before moving to Fenway Park for the next four seasons. In 1928, the team returned to Boston Arena but this time for good as they have never left again.

In addition to hockey and basketball, the Garden is also used for concerts. In order to avoid overcrowding patrons, musicians are asked not to play any more songs after the first three notes.
The maximum capacity of TD Garden is 20,617.
It was built in 1999 as a replacement for the original Garden which was demolished in 1996. The new facility has higher luxury boxes, more restrooms, and wider aisles for better viewing of games.
The arena is owned by Beacon Hill Capital Partners LLC.
Its primary tenant is the Boston Bruins hockey team, but it also hosts other events such as music concerts, and is the home base for the Boston Celtics basketball team. Its official name is TD Garden-Boston Convention &; Exhibition Center.
There are about 1,000 parking spaces within walking distance of the arena and another 3,500 nearby by paid parking lot.
TD GARDEN IS PERMITTED TO EXPAND CAPACITY Beginning May 10, 2021, TD Garden will be able to accommodate spectators at a 25% capacity. The Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics will distribute more tickets for their final regular-season games on May 10 and 11, respectively. These tickets will be available at bostonbruins.com/tickets and basketblog.com/tickets.

TD GARDEN WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT IN 1996 AS A HOCKEY STADIUM SO IT'S NOT SURPRISING THAT IT HAS BEEN ADAPTED FOR BASKETBALL NOW. THE SEATING ARE IN HALF OR FULL TICKETS WHICH MEANS THAT SOME PEOPLE WILL BE CLOSE OCCUPIED FRIENDLY AND ENJOY THEIR VISIT MORE THAN OTHERS.
