Ivan Rodriguez was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, on November 30, 1971. Rodriguez made his major league debut with the Texas Rangers on June 20, 1991, at the age of 19. He ended up playing eight seasons for the Rangers, finishing with a.272 average, 31 home runs and 97 RBIs.
In 1999, Rodriguez signed with the New York Yankees. He played two seasons with them before returning to the Rangers in 2001. In 2002, he finished with 39 homers and 102 RBIs and won the AL Most Valuable Player Award. The next year, he set a record by hitting into the last out of game number 600 of an MLB season. That final out was made by Brian Jordan of the Chicago White Sox. In 2005, Rodriguez left Texas after six seasons to sign with the Seattle Mariners. He played three more seasons before announcing his retirement in 2008. Since then, he has worked as a baseball analyst for Fox Sports and ESPN.
Rodriguez is the all-time leader in hits (3297) and doubles (711) by a shortstop. He also ranks second all-time in runs scored (1216), third in batting average, and total bases (4054).
He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.

He started playing baseball when he was five years old. His first team was made up of older boys but soon after he began playing with a youth club in his town. He used to spend most of his free time playing ball or watching baseball games on television. At the age of 11, he was spotted by a scout from San Diego Padres who came to watch him play. Later on, he signed with the team as an international prospect. In 2014, he was chosen by Los Angeles Dodgers as their first-overall pick in the MLB draft.
He debuted for the Colombia national baseball team in an exhibition game against Venezuela in October 2014. He scored a run and hit a double in this game which Colombia lost 1-4. He became only the second teenager after Alex Rodriguez to debut for the team before they took part in any major tournament (the first one being Erick Aybar in 1999).
In 2015, he played for the Colombia national baseball team in the 2015 Pan American Games where they won the gold medal. He hit a homer and scored two runs in this game which Colombia won with a score of 10-5.
