They have now lost the American League Championship Series four times in a row—in 2010, 2012, 2017, and 2019—tying the record for the longest drought in MLB history. The first two were defeats to the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers, respectively, while the last two came at the hands of the Houston Astros. All four teams involved in these games have since moved on to the World Series.
The Yanks’ current championship drought is the second longest in New York City after the 1957 New York Mets. That team went undefeated during the regular season before losing to the Milwaukee Braves in the World Series.
There are several factors that may have contributed to the Yankees’ recent poor performances including: (1) aging players, (2) high payroll, and (3) lack of quality free agents. It should be noted that although the Bronx Bombers have failed to win the World Series since 2009, they have still managed to make it to the postseason every year since 2002 when they last won the World Series.
In addition to their four ALCS losses, the Yankees also have zero World Series titles to their name. They are one of only three franchises (the Chicago Cubs being the other one) who have never won the series more than twice in succession.
The Yankees first entered the World Series in 1926 when they were known as the New York Giants.
Eight games in a row The Rangers have dropped eight straight games since the break. In the last eight games, they’ve been outscored 61-13. For the first time in franchise history, the Rangers have two nine-game losing streaks. They also had a nine-game losing streak from March 29 to April 6, 1995.
The last time the Rangers lost eight games in a row was back in 1975 when they were called the New York Nets. That season, they lost their first eight games before finishing with a 34-12 record. Coached by Lou Carnesecca and led by all-stars Walt Frazier and Bill Bradley, they were considered one of the best teams in NBA history.
In addition to the Nets, the Rangers are the only other major league team to lose eight consecutive games. The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals each had seven-game losing streaks in 1941.
The longest active losing streak in the NHL is held by the Ottawa Senators, who have lost 10 games in a row. The Texas Stars are second with nine losses in a row.

In its 28-year history, the team that is frequently predicted to finish last in the National League East has never lost a postseason series. With the two-game sweep over the Cubs, the team improves to 24-11 all-time in postseason games. The last time the Cubs lost three consecutive games was 2006 when they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Marlins are now 2-0 against the Cubs this season and will play game 3 on Thursday in Miami.
Their latest victory came at Wrigley Field on September 25th where rookie pitcher Jordan Yamamoto pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the win as the Marlins took game 2 of the series 1-0.
Yamamoto became the first Marlin to pitch a perfect game since Mike Morgan in 1982. The only other rookie to ever pitch a no-hit game was Sandy Koufax for the Dodgers in 1965. He finished the game with 10 strikeouts.
Marlins manager Don Mattingly said before the game that he believes his team is ready for a long series and doesn’t want it to end tonight. Mattingly also mentioned that he likes having rookie pitchers in big situations because “they tend to rise to the occasion”.
After losing game 1, the Cubs came back to take a 1-0 lead in the eighth inning but left seven runners on base.
The Baseball Almanac ranks the major league clubs that have lost more than a hundred and ten games in a single season (with links to rosters, stats, and schedules): The Louisville Colonels dropped all three games of a tripleheader on September 7, 1896.
When the Nationals defeated the Astros in Game 7 of the 2019 World Series, they claimed the first title in the history of a team that originated in Montreal in 1969 before moving to Washington in 2005. Their victory left only six major league teams without a championship.
The team has won seven World Series, twenty-four pennants, thirty-three postseason appearances, and nineteen division titles. The Dodgers, like the Yankees and Cardinals, have never lost 100 games in a season since World War I, with their lowest record being 63 wins and 99 losses in 1992. They have also never been eliminated from playoff contention.
After winning the first two games at home, this year’s Series shifted to Los Angeles where the Dodgers fell behind 3-1. They would go on to lose all five games against the Cubs. The loss ended their season and sent them home empty-handed.
They have now lost three consecutive World Series after winning the first two games. This is the first time this has happened to either the Yankees or Cardinals.
After losing Game 6 last night, this makes it three straight World Series defeats for the Dodgers.
Los Angeles will try to win game four tonight in Chicago before heading to New York for game five tomorrow afternoon. If they are defeated again, the series would head back to Chicago for game six Monday night. The winner of that game goes to town for game seven… which will be played if necessary.
This is the first time since 1912 that three consecutive World Series victories were followed by three consecutive losses.
