Ronaldo won the Premier League three times in his career, in 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09. He is the only player to have won the league with two different teams.
He first joined Manchester United in September 2003 and went on to make 280 appearances for the club, scoring 105 goals. He left Old Trafford at the end of the 2009-10 season after making 266 appearances and scoring 101 goals. In July 2010, Ronaldo signed a contract with Real Madrid that will keep him there until 2014.
He returned to England in June 2011 when he joined London 2012 Olympic champions Liverpool. However, he was banned for four matches by the Football Association after testing positive for a banned substance. The ban ended up being reduced to one match after an appeal was successful.
He returned from suspension on August 8th, just three days into the new season, when Liverpool played Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. Ronaldo scored two goals in this game and helped his team to a 2-1 victory.
His third Premier League title came with Juventus in 2009-10. That year, he made 35 appearances and scored 12 goals as his team finished ahead of Manchester United on goal difference.
He was twice named European Footballer of the Year and three times named FIFA Player of the Year. Ronaldo appeared in 97 matches for Brazil, scoring 62 goals. He was a member of the World Cup-winning teams in 1994 and 2002. His retirement from international football was announced on 4 August 2004.
After retiring from playing, Ronaldo turned to management, taking charge of Brazilian club Corinthians in 2005. He led them to the Brazilian championship in his first season, with Coritiba following as his side's runner-up. In 2007, he returned to international football, this time joining up with Dunga's squad at the Copa America in Venezuela. Brazil went on to win the tournament for the second time in its history.
Ronaldo signed with Italian club Juventus in July 2009. The Italian club paid €80 million for his services, making him the world's most expensive player. He helped the team win the 2010 UEFA Champions League title before leaving the club at the end of the season. Since then he has been involved in a contract dispute with Juventus over his release clause which was set at $1 billion but later reduced to $75 million.
In 2013, Ronaldo joined Spanish club Real Madrid for a reported fee of $96 million. He is considered one of the greatest athletes of all time and has been described as "the best soccer player in the world".
Ronaldo has guided Real Madrid to four Champions League championships in the last five years. He has five FIFA Ballon d'Or awards. The only thing he hasn't gotten his hands on is a World Cup trophy.
He has been named the world's best player on several occasions. His current contract with Real Madrid runs until 2020.
In addition to his achievements with Madrid, Ronaldo has three league titles and an Italian cup win to his name with Juventus. He left Juve for Manchester United in 2009, but returned to the club he originally joined, Portugal's Sporting Lisbon, two seasons later. In January 2016, he signed a new deal with Real Madrid that will keep him at the Spanish club until 2018.
Besides being one of the most successful players of all time, Ronaldo is also known for his prolific goalscoring record. During his career, he has scored hundreds of goals across all competitions including international matches. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he became only the second player after Pelé to score in each round of Olympic football (the other being Brazil's Pele).
Ronaldo has also been praised for his work off the field. He has been voted the greatest Portuguese athlete of all time by national sports newspaper A Pais.
