Favre has the record for most career fumbles with 166, in addition to all interception records. He's been sacked 525 times, the most of any quarterback.
In fact, there are only three other quarterbacks who have more than 100 passes thrown their way: Joe Kapp (117), Don McPeak (116), and George Blanda (115). All three were in the military during World War II. They are the only three players to lose a game while carrying the ball at least once.
Blanda lost his first four attempts before finishing with seven carries for 44 yards and a touchdown. McPeak lost his first five attempts before finishing with nine carries for 39 yards. And Kapp lost his first six attempts before being relieved by Norm Van Brocklin late in the third quarter of an 11-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on September 30, 1945.
Blanda, McPeak, and Kapp all served as backups during their rookie seasons. Only Favre had better success when given time to throw. In four games this season, he has 20 touchdowns to two interceptions.
Brett Favre has lost two fumbles this year, one in each game. He threw a total of four interceptions in those contests.
In the NFL Super Bowl, Roger Staubach has the most career fumbles. Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach holds the record for most Super Bowl fumbles. He had five in III. In IV, he lost a fumble at his own 10-yard line with 1 minute left to play.
Staubach's record was broken by Kansas City's Tony Gonzalez in V. Gonzalez had four sacks and three fumbles in this game.
Gonzalez went on to play 12 more seasons in the NFL and scored 42 touchdowns during that time frame. He also won the 2006 NFL MVP award.
Staubach played only three more seasons after IV, retiring after the 1988 season at the age of 36. He finished his NFL career with 13,449 passing yards, 72 touchdowns, and 57 interceptions while playing in 93 games over 11 years.
Another famous quarterback who had a lot of fumbles in Super Bowls is Joe Montana. He had three in III when he played for the 49ers and VI when he played for the Chiefs. All three fumbles were recovered by the other team.
The last two quarterbacks to start a Super Bowl have both had four total fumbles in that game.
Favre was the only player in NFL history to record 500 career touchdown passes, 70,000 lifetime passing yards, 5,000 and 6,000 career pass completions, 300 interceptions, and three consecutive Most Valuable Player honors. The most prolific passer of his generation, he is also the most successful quarterback never to win the Super Bowl.
Favre's career began during the 1992 season when he entered the league as a first-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers. He stayed with the team through the 1999 season, playing all but one game during that time. In those 16 seasons, he recorded 5,077 yards with 50 touchdowns against 37 interceptions. He also had two years removed from college - 1996 and 1997 - in which he led the league in total yards from scrimmage each year.
During his time in Green Bay, Favre helped the Packers win two Super Bowls: Super Bowl XXXI over New England Patriots and Super Bowl XLV against Pittsburgh Steelers. He was named the MVP of both games.
After the 1999 season, Favre decided to leave Green Bay for the New York Jets, where he would play three more seasons before retiring after the 2002 season. In between, he played in the 2001 season opener against his former team, winning 34-31 in overtime.
Many will recall Favre's final toss as a member of the New York Jets. He threw an interception to Andre Goodman, although it wasn't his worst play of the game. In the second quarter, rookie defensive end Phillip Merling intercepted Favre's throw and returned it 25 yards for a score.
Favre concluded his career with 336 interceptions, the most of any quarterback. George Blanda is second with 277, while the closest active players are Drew Brees and Eli Manning, both with 228.
Favre formerly held multiple Southern Miss football records, most of which were broken by Austin Davis at the end of the 2011 season. Favre has 15 games in his career with more than 200 throwing yards, placing him fourth in school history on the all-time record. Favre led the Packers to an 11-5 record, their best in nearly three decades. Favre set a career best with 4,413 yards and 38 touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 99.5, which he held until recording a rating of 107.2 during the 2009 season.
During the regular season, Favre threw more touchdown passes against the Chicago Bears than any other club, totaling 60. The Detroit Lions are second with 58, followed by the Minnesota Vikings with 54. (whom he played with during the last two years of his career).
