Beginning in 1970, New Orleans has hosted 11 Super Bowls inside Tulane Stadium and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The most recent game was in February 2015.
The host city selects the Super Bowl champion. Los Angeles won the right to host by defeating New York 27-10 in the 1953 NFL Championship Game. Los Angeles then went on to defeat New Orleans 24-7 in the first Super Bowl.
There have been more than 50 million visitors to Louisiana, which is more than any other state. This number does not include the millions more who have watched the games on television.
The most visitors ever in a single month was last year when nearly 9 million people came to Louisiana to watch the Saints play in the Superdome. The least was in 1969 when only 795,000 tourists visited.
Louisiana is one of five states (along with Alaska, Arizona, California, and Nevada) that make up the Southwest region of the United States. The others are Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Mississippi.
Louisiana is known for its food, music, and entertainment, but also has a rich history that can be found in many cities across the state.
The New Orleans Saints are the major tenant of the Superdome. The squad frequently draws sold-out audiences. The Superdome has hosted seven Super Bowls, the most recent being Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. Football...

In February 2022, Super Bowl LVI will be held at SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California. The first Super Bowl was held in Los Angeles in 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and the event was last played in Los Angeles in 1993 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.
The NFL announced on January 24, 2012 that it had awarded its sixth game of the season to be played on February 3, 2022 between the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game will be the first ever NFL title game to be played in Southern California.
Los Angeles has been selected as one of six cities vying for the right to host the game. The decision by the league's owners is expected to be made during their meetings this spring in New York City. If approved by the owners, the game would be played at SoFi Stadium which is scheduled to open in 2019. The venue is located just minutes from Hollywood Boulevard and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. It can seat up to 70,000 people.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum did host one NFL championship game before SoFi Stadium opened- the 1972 Miami Dolphins vs. Oakland Raiders game. The winner would have gone on to play Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl. Miami won that game 27-17 to claim their first NFL title.
Miami holds the all-time record with 11 Super Bowls, followed by New Orleans (10), Los Angeles (five), and Pasadena (one). The Rams and Chargers might join the Buccaneers in 2020 as the only teams to have won Super Bowls in their home stadiums. In fact, no other team has ever done so.
The Tampa Bay area has been very good to football fans. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won two Super Bowl titles, in 2002 and 2005. Before then, the only NFL title ever won by a Tampa Bay team was by the Mighty Mighty Men in 1987. That's right, the Tampa Bay Bandits are the only NFL franchise to have never appeared in or lost a Super Bowl game.
The Bucs' first Super Bowl victory came at Florida State University's Sun Life Stadium in Miami. The game was played on February 3, 2002. Safety Michael Robinson blocked a punt by Matt Allen that was returned for a touchdown by Anwar Jones Jr. of the San Diego Chargers to give Tampa Bay a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter. However, Miami scored 24 straight points to take a blowout win, 39-7.
In their second Super Bowl victory, also in Miami, the Bucs faced off against the Richard Sherman-led Seattle Seahawks. This time, it was Seattle who struck first when Sherman intercepted quarterback Josh Freeman at the Buccaneer 30-yard line.
The Superdome will host its seventh Super Bowl in 2025. On Monday, January 26, 1976, the 1976 Pro Bowl was held in the Superdome... football.

The Georgia Dome hosted Super Bowl XXXIV in 1994 and Super Bowl XXVIII in 2000. It is currently the home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.
Super Bowl LII will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on February 4th, 2018. The new stadium opened its doors in 2016 after being built at a cost of $1 billion.
It will be the first Super Bowl to be held in Minnesota and the second time that the city has hosted the event (the 1976 game was also held in Minnesota). It will also be the first Super Bowl played outside of New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.
Minneapolis/St. Paul was chosen over other candidates Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, San Diego, and Seattle. The decision was made by the NFL's owners during their spring meeting in Orlando, Florida.
The Georgia Dome hosted Super Bowl LII after the Falcons moved into their new home, Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It is expected that next year's game will be held there too since it is still less than five years old. However, if the Vikings win the 2017 NFC Championship Game then they will play in Super Bowl LIII at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Miami region has previously hosted 10 Super Bowls, and the 11th will break a tie for the most in the country with New Orleans. (However, when it hosts Super Bowl 58 in 2024, New Orleans will tie Miami again.)
Tampa was an easy pick to fill the Super Bowl 2021 site vacancy due to its previous success as a host. The Super Bowl has been held in Tampa four times, twice at the old Tampa Stadium and twice in Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL's Buccaneers. The stadium, which can accommodate 75,000 people, staged its inaugural NFL game in 1998.
The 57th Super Bowl will take place on February 5, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. State Farm Stadium is the Arizona Cardinals' home stadium and has previously hosted Super Bowl 42 and Super Bowl 49. While the venue of Super Bowl 59 has yet to be chosen, the host of Super Bowl 58 has.
