The player receives three points if he or she makes a field goal from beyond the three-point line. The side with the most points at the end of the game is named the winner.
In college basketball, if there are fewer than five players on the court during play then each team gets one point for every player that remains on the floor. If there are five or more players on the court during play then each team gets two points for every player that remains on the floor. For example, if four players are on the court during play and both teams have three players remaining, then each team will earn six points.
In the NBA, if there are fewer than two players on the court during play then each team gets two points for every player that remains on the floor. For example, if five players are on the court during play and both teams have three players remaining, then each team will earn 10 points.
In any basketball game where there are less than five players on the court, if your team wins by three or more goals then you will get three points for every player you had on the court.
Making field goals (two or three points) or free throws can earn you points (one point). A player earns two points if he or she hits a field goal from inside the three-point line. If a player goes over five minutes without making a field goal, then he or she loses one point for every two remaining on the clock.
The last score of a game is called the "end result". This usually means that either team has enough points to win or they are tied and will have to play another round to determine a winner. However, if there is a clear margin of victory, the official scorer may choose to call it early instead. For example, if one team scores 100 points while the other only manages 30, it would be very unusual for the opponent to win by more than 50 points. Thus, calling the game before its conclusion is pointless, so the referee usually waits until both teams have been notified that their games are over before announcing the end result.
End result decisions must be confirmed by the referee before being posted online or on paper scorebooks. If there is any doubt about whether or not the game ended in a tie, the officials should wait until the following day to make their decision final.

There are three points A three-point field goal is referred to as a "three-pointer." A three-pointer is any shot made by a player from outside the three-point line. The NBA began recording three-pointers made in 1979-80; before then, only players who made them could be credited with such shots.

If a team is playing defense against a three-point shooter and he hits the three, the defense must change positions after the ball is released from behind the arc or it will be considered a foul. No matter what, there is no delay of game when a three-pointer is shot!
A four-point play is earned by scoring four consecutive free throws in a single period. It is possible to score four consecutive free throws without making all of them.
The squad can only win by one point. Teams score by shooting two-point goals or three-point shots from outside the three-point circle. Following a basket or a foul call, a player must put the ball in play from a line beyond the three-point line above the foul key. A player can shoot from anywhere on the court as long as they're beyond the three-point line.
There is no rule that says a team has to go inside the paint for a shot. You can also shoot from beyond the three-point line if you're feeling generous.
A team wins by one point when the opposing team misses all their free throws. If there's still time left on the clock and your team is winning by one, you can choose to allow them to make one more pass before taking the ball out of bounds. This is called a "one and done" situation. Or, you can force your opponent into making their free throw with no time remaining. The other team has 20 seconds left while you watch the ball spin slowly around the rim of the basketball court. That's how teams win games by one point.

Currently, teams are awarded two points if they reach halftime with only one player remaining on their roster. This opportunity comes up very rarely but does give players a chance to earn an additional 50 cents per minute played.
