While there's no disputing Rodgers is a Hall-of-Fame player – even Bears supporters would concede that – he hasn't been able to win the big postseason games as frequently as he should. Rodgers has won as many NFC Championships as former Bears quarterback Rex Grossman in five appearances. He also has a chance to become the first quarterback in NFL history to reach 10 playoff wins before 30 years old if he can lead the Packers to a victory over the Bears this weekend.
Rodgers is 4-1 in the playoffs with 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He will be looking to continue his perfect record this weekend when the Packers travel to Chicago for an NFC Championship Game showdown with the Bears. The game will be played on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 3:00 p.m. EST on Fox.
It's been well documented how much the Bears love playing in front of their home crowd during the postseason. In fact, they've had one of the most successful postseasons in NFL history at Wrigley Field, going 18-5 in the playoffs over the last two decades. With a victory over the Packers on Sunday, Chicago will attempt to make it 19-5 all time in the postseason.
The last time these two teams met was back in January of 2016. With the game tied at 28 late in the fourth quarter, Rodgers led three straight touchdown drives to give him 10 victories in the final frame.
Allow it to sink in. With the loss against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Rodgers became the first quarterback in NFL history to lose four consecutive NFC Championship Games. The last time a quarterback lost four straight NFC Championship Games was when Brett Favre was beaten by San Francisco in 2004.
Favre went on to win the next two Super Bowls. In between, he also lost three NFC Championship Games in a row. The first two losses came away from home against Dallas, but he still managed to lead his teams to victory in all six games he appeared in.
After those two playoff exits at the hands of Dallas, Favre decided to retire at the end of the 2008 season after making one final trip to New York as a visitor. He spent the night at the Plaza Hotel before returning home to Green Bay for one more game. During his final ride in an open-top Cadillac down Broadway before 70,000 fans at Lambeau Field, Favre announced that he was retiring due to health issues related to the neck problem that ended his career.
In conclusion, losing four straight NFC Championship Games is no easy task. You have to be one of the best to ever play the game to even have a chance at winning one.
The Bears have suffered the most at the hands of Rodgers. The Packers' NFC North foe has only won five games versus Rodgers and has been defeated 22 times, including once in the playoffs. Rodgers has also had some of his best games against the Chicago Bears. He's 5-1 with three touchdowns and no interceptions against them.
Since the inception of their rivalry in 1922, the Bears have won nine games compared to Rodgers' seven. However, due to the fact that there have only been seven seasons (including the current one) where both Rodgers and the Bears were in contention for a championship, it can be argued that the Bears have had the upper hand. In fact, if we go back to 1969, when the Packers joined what was then called the NFL, they would hold a 4-1 edge over the Bears.
Both teams are 1-0 this season because neither game mattered toward the outcome of the division race. In Week 1, Rodgers led the Pack to a 23-7 victory over the Vikings while the Bears fell 27-10 to the Giants.
