Four. Our Florida golf resort is home to four distinctively built courses, including the Blue Monster, one of golf's most recognizable. The other three courses at Doral Golf Resort & Spa are the Black Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus; the White Course, designed by Pete Dye; and the Gold Course, designed by Tom Fazio.
The opening of Doral in 1990 sparked a boom in golf course construction across Florida, with more than 70 courses added in the next decade. But the real surge came after the turn of the century, when more than 100 courses have been built in the state.
Doral is best known for its Blue Monster course, one of golf's greatest challenges. The 6,914-yard course was originally built in 1958 but wasn't named one of golf's 10 hardest tests until it was reworked by Jack Nicklaus in 1985. Since then, it has been listed as one of the hardest courses to play in both the U.S. and Canada.
In addition to the Blue Monster, other popular courses at Doral include the Palmer Ranch, which opened in 1992; the Sergio Garcia-designed Spanish Towne Club, which opened in 1995; and the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, which opened in 1999.

There are nine golf courses. The most famous is probably the famed Pinehurst No. 2. It was here that the PGA Championship was first held in 1995 and remains one of its few annual events.
The other eight courses are also well known within the golfing community and host some of the major tournaments in the world. They are Pinehurst No. 1, Pinehurst No. 3, Pinehurst No. 4, Pinehurst No. 5, Pinehurst No. 6, Pinehurst No. 7, and Pinehurst No. 9.
They form the Pinehurst Resort, a luxury golf and spa resort located just outside Pinehurst, North Carolina.
The first three courses were built by Herbert Warren Wind for the 1958 Masters Tournament. He also designed Pinehurst No. 4, No. 5, and No. 7. The last two courses are 9-hole layouts used as practice facilities for the professional players. They are not open to the public.
Pinehurst No. 2 was the first course built at Pinehurst Resort. It opened in 1934 and lies next to the current No. 1 course.

The number of people who play golf in San Diego has increased over the years. There were about 6,000 players in 1980, which increased to almost 14,000 in 1990 and then dropped back down to about 12,000 in 2000.
Golf is popular in San Diego because of the weather. The summers are warm and dry, and the winters are cool and rarely snowfall. This means that golf can be played year-round without having to deal with extreme heat or cold.
Almost all the courses in San Diego are owned by businesses or individuals. Only two courses are affiliated with universities: University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University.
Most courses have only one or two types of holes. They are usually either par 3 or par 4. Some courses have a few longer holes that are considered par 5's. These longer holes often require careful planning of your approach shot since there is not much room for error.
There are 440 golf courses. The largest group by far is private, with 349 courses. Second is municipal, with 79 courses.
The number of courses has increased dramatically since 1980, when there were only 330 courses in operation. This increase is the result of a major expansion by both the public and private sectors.
