Last week, we reported on the Atlanta Falcons alerting PSL owners about their 2020 possibilities. Since then, new information has come to light. The Atlanta Falcons announced on Wednesday that they will admit between 10,000 and 20,000 supporters inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season. This makes them the second most popular team in the NFL after the Dallas Cowboys with an estimated fan base of around 50 million.
The NFL requires that each franchise have a certain number of tickets available for sale to the public. Teams can sell these tickets through various methods including online sales, ticket brokers, etc.
In 2017, the Falcons sold approximately 70,000 tickets which made them the third most popular team in the NFL behind only the Cowboys and Rams. They also had one of the highest ticket prices in the league ($500-$2000).
The team's former home, Georgia Dome, had a capacity of 69,944 people but was mostly filled with plastic seats instead of real tickets. The Falcons moved into their new stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in 2016 and opened its doors to the public that year for the NFL season opener against the Chicago Bears. The stadium has a total capacity of 67,700 people and features "flexible seating" which allows it to be reconfigured for different games. However, it is not known yet how this will affect their ticket sales.
Atlanta Falcons/Arenas/Stadiums/Mercedes-Benz Stadium: The Falcons play in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The stadium is known as "The Dome" because of its roof design. It opened in 2017 after being built at a cost of $672 million.
The venue is home to the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and was designed by HNTB Corp. with César Pelli & Associates as the lead architect. It features a retractable roof that opens up to provide natural light and views of downtown Atlanta, as well as a bowl-style layout with an artificial turf field. The stadium has received multiple awards from various organizations for its design and construction.
The Falcons have played their home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State University since 1966. The team won the National Football League (NFL) championship here in Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots on February 5, 2017. The victory gave the Falcons their first Super Bowl win.
Athena Sports & Entertainment owns and operates the Falcons and also manages several other venues across Atlanta including Lakewood Stadium, Villa Rica High School, and Thomasville Junior College.
The Atlanta Falcons played their 55th season in the National Football League in 2020, their fourth at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and their sixth and final season under head coach Dan Quinn. ...

For Sunday's game, 6,000 Saints supporters will be admitted inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. For Monday's match, 10,000 Portland Timbers fans can attend Tualatin FC vs. New Orleans Fire FC.
The number of tickets sold for each game is divided by the price of a ticket to determine the maximum number of people that can go to the game. If 6,000 people buy tickets for $100 per seat, that's $60,000. If only 5,000 people buy tickets, the price would have to be more than $200 for the team to make any money.
It's not unusual for some games to sell out before they play. In fact, this year's season opener between the Saints and Atlanta Falcons on September 8th has already sold out.
The highest number of fans ever in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome was when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana played in his first NFL game on October 4th 1977. The game ended in a 13-13 tie between the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. Outraged fans began showing up early the next morning to get tickets, and by noon there were so many people waiting outside the dome that police had to block traffic on nearby Napoleon Avenue.
Atlanta, Georgia The Falcons played their final season at the Georgia Dome before moving to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017. The Atlanta Falcons played at the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta for 24 seasons. In 2016, the NFL awarded the Oakland Raiders the right to move to Las Vegas, Nevada, leaving an opening for the Falcons to return to the dome after one season away.
The Falcons released a statement saying they will be returning to the dome for their 25th anniversary season in 2017 and will remain there through at least 2020 when they plan to build a new stadium. The team also announced that CEO Rich McKay will be retiring at the end of the season.
The Falcons were originally going to move into the new stadium on the campus of Georgia State University but negotiations with the school broke down and instead they will be playing in Mercedes-Benz Stadium which is located in downtown Atlanta. The stadium was built for the 1996 Olympics and has been used since then for soccer matches and other events such as the World Championship in Basketball.
In 2011, the dome received major renovations which included new seats, a new turf field, and other changes. It currently has 70,000 square feet of space that can be expanded to meet NFL requirements for player capacity.
The Falcons have never sold fewer than 50,000 season tickets in any year since 2002. Moreover, the team sold out 110 of 112 regular season games during the same time span, capping off an eight-year sellout streak in the previous Georgia Dome. The NFL's average ticket price is $72.50, while the Falcons' average seat price is $267.
In fact, season tickets are so popular that they're not available to the public. They're given out by vote to members of the media, fans, and others who support or work for the team.
Since its founding in 1966, the Atlanta Falcons have used different venues for home games. Originally, they played their home games at Athens Stadium. After one season, they moved to the Georgia Dome, where they've remained ever since. The dome is also the home stadium of the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball. During the mid-1990s, the Falcons were among the most profitable teams in the NFL. However, they have not appeared in a playoff game since 1999. In 2015, they finished with a 7-9 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 1993.
The franchise is owned by Arthur Blank, a businessman from Georgia. He has been called "America's Team" because of his city's proximity to the capital. Between 1996 and 2014, only the Dallas Cowboys had more consecutive sellouts than the Falcons.
