Since 1973, the program has been among the best in collegiate baseball, appearing in 25 College World Series, earning four national titles (1982, 1985, 1999, 2001), and progressing to the NCAA regionals for a record 44 years. Miami has won 29 NCAA Regional Championships and hosted 27 NCAA Regionals.
The Hurricanes' most recent title came in 2001 when they defeated Arkansas 2-1 in the final game of the CWS. That season, Miami finished with a 43-15 record, its first 40-win season since 1982 when it went 41-13.
Miami's all-time mark includes a record 434-225-1 overall and 328-149-1 in the ACC. The program has reached the championship series every year except 1978 when it lost partway through the season after starting 1-3.
The Hurricanes have made 11 appearances in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, most recently in 2013 when they advanced to the best-of-three National Championship Series before falling to Florida State 3-0. Miami was ranked No. 1 in the latest ESPN Coaches Poll prior to the start of the season but fell out of the top spot after losing several players to military service.
They returned in 1969 after two years off and have never looked back. Miami is one of only three schools to have played in every NCAA Baseball Tournament (Texas and Georgia Tech are the others).
From 1973 to 2016, Miami's baseball team progressed to the NCAA Tournament every year, the longest playoff streak in NCAA history. Miami has won five national titles in women's golf, four in polo, two in women's swimming and diving, and one in men's crew.
The University of Miami debuted its baseball program in 1947. The Hurricanes have played their home games at Alex Rodriguez Park at J. Smith & W. Taylor Fields on the university campus since 1950. UM has been a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) since the league was founded in 1953. The school is located in Coral Gables, Florida.
Before 1997, the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship only included an automatic bid for the winner of the ACC conference tournament. Since then, any team that wins its division within the ACC can also claim a share of the title. As a result, many mid-major teams have found success in college baseball over the past 15 years or so. In 2001, Miami made its first appearance in the College World Series. They lost to California in the opening game before defeating South Carolina in the next round to advance to the best-of-three finals. UCLA claimed victory over the Hurricanes, who finished the season 44-12.
In 2002, Miami returned to the College World Series as the number one overall seed. The Hurricanes took down Virginia in the opening game before losing to Arizona State in the next round.
The trails in Northern Colorado and Miami (FL) have each made six straight CWS appearances. 6— Programs that have attended the College World Series 20 times or more. Stanford has gone to the College World Series 16 times, winning 40 games along the way, highlighted by a streak of five consecutive visits from 1999 to 2003. Florida, who won the national championship in 2017, equaled Clemson for the most trips to the College World Series in 2018.
Florida State has won 11 regular-season conference titles and 20 conference tournament titles, including nine regular-season ACC titles and eight ACC tournament titles. Florida State has produced 98 All-Americans and 62 Major League Baseball players. The Seminoles have made 57 postseason appearances, most in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
They have reached the College World Series six times, winning its first two seasons before entering a seven-year drought from 1992 to 1998 when they did not make it past the opening round. That streak was broken in 1999 when they advanced to the finals before losing to Cal State Fullerton. Since then, they have been back to the CWS every year except 2003 when they fell just short of making it to Omaha for the second time in three years.
FSU's overall record is 814-392-12. Their mark includes 68 conference wins, four against non-ACC opponents. Their only losses came to Miami (Fla.), which would go on to win the 1994 national title, and Virginia, which edged them in the final game of the 1996 season to claim the Atlantic Coast Conference crown.
The Seminoles are one of only three schools to play in over 600 games without being defeated (611-600-1). They have won at least 30 games five times and 40 or more four times.
