The Sacramento State Hornets football team represents California State University, Sacramento, which is situated in Sacramento, California. The squad is a member of the Big Sky Conference and participates in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
They first played in 1906 and have won two championships - in 1959 and 1960 - both of which were vacated by the NCAA because of violations committed by their opponent, San Diego State. In 2009, they lost to Montana 56-55 in overtime.
Currently, the Hornets are coached by Craig Bohl and play their home games at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento. The facility has been called many things over the years including; CSUSM Stadium, Raley Field, and McArthur Court. It was originally built for $250,000 and has a capacity of 5,000 people.
Sacramento State's original mascot was Chief Sacagawea but after several deaths due to accidents involving students riding horses on campus, they decided to change it to a robot named Robo. He was designed by student artists and engineers and built by Nissha Robotics who currently manufactures all Sacramento State athletes' uniforms. They also use recycled materials for as much as possible with the hope of creating jobs and reducing waste. The team name "Hornets" came from the nickname given to the original settlers in Northern California.

As a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the Hornets compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The school's home games are played at Bob Randolph Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Alabama State University football program was established in 1914. Over the years, the Hornets have won more than 100 games while only losing more than they've won. They have one undefeated season (1947) and four seasons with 10 or more wins (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002). The most recent victory came in 2004 when they beat Southern Union College 26-7 in Montgomery. The Hornets play their home games at Bob Randolph Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
Alabama State has had 12 players drafted into the NFL including three first round picks. Three Hornet players have been chosen as First Team All-Americans by the American Football Coaches Association: Dexter Manley (1989), Eric Berry (2009), and DeMeco Ryans (2010).
In 1990, Alabama State joined the Gulf Coast Conference where they remained until 2011 when they returned to the SWAC. The GCSC became the Gulf Star Conference in 2012 before dissolving after just one season.
The University of Southern California Trojans football team represents the university in the sport of American football. The Trojans participate in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the Pac-12 Conference's South Division (Pac-12). USC has won more national championships than any other college or university in the United States.
USC was founded in 1885 as a teacher's college by seven former Yale University students. They named the school after the student body president who had died while serving as acting president of the university. The original campus was located on Mulberry Street in New York City, but it moved to Los Angeles in 1890 when the university decided to move its operations west. Originally only offering graduate programs, USC began awarding bachelor's degrees in 1996. Today, it is among the most selective universities in the country, with an acceptance rate of less than 10 percent.
The USC football program has been a dominant force in sports at the university for many years. The Trojans first played organized football in 1889 under head coach Charles A. Stevens. They went 8-1 that season and earned a bid into the inaugural Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) tournament. The following year, they participated in their first bowl game when they traveled to San Francisco to face Stanford in the 1890 Rose Bowl. USC lost that game 7-0.
The UC Davis Aggies football team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision representing the University of California, Davis (FCS). The Aggies earned their first Division I football championship in 2018 as one of the Big Sky Conference's three regular season champions. They defeated North Dakota State 31-28 in the FCS playoffs.
They have never appeared in a Bowl Game.
UC Davis was founded in 1876 and is located in Davis, California. The school's athletic program began in 1900 with the addition of baseball. The Aggies have competed in 11 different sports throughout their history. Football is their most recent addition (1901). Men's basketball is the most popular sport at UC Davis with over 100 alumni members on the current NBA roster including Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala. Women's basketball has also had its share of success with several former players having played in the WNBA including Dawn Staley who led UC Davis to its only two NCAA tournaments appearances.
The UC Davis Aggies play their home games at George S. Parker Stadium which opened in 1950. The stadium is named after a longtime professor and coach at UC Davis who helped establish nine national championships across multiple sports. It is estimated that 20,000 people attend Aggie games annually.
