D.T. (Miami Dolphins) That accolade goes to Flipper, yes, TV's Flipper, who spent the first two years of the Dolphins' existence in a Dolphin tank on the east end of the Orange Bowl and performed stunts after Miami scored. Due to the hefty expenditures, Flipper was deleted. However, his ghost appears to have followed the team when they moved to Florida.
Today, the Miami Dolphins have no affiliation with the original team from 1963-68. However, there are several dolphins within the Miami metropolitan area including one at SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment that has been trained to perform certain tricks. This training dolphin is not affiliated with the original Miami Dolphins team and has no connection to Flipper whatsoever.

T.D.'s costume is made from nylon and polyester fiber with plastic pellets for weight. He wears shoes with rubber soles and socks with flippers. T.D.'s tail is constructed of fiberglass and he uses a wheelchair for mobility.
John Eshleman created T.D. during Thanksgiving week in 1996 when he wasn't paid by the team. He said he did it because he loved football and wanted to be a part of something great. The team liked his work so much they hired him right away!

On January 14, 1973, the Miami Dolphins hit the field at the Los Angeles Coliseum, and history was on the line. After winning every game this season, the Miami Dolphins rolled past the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII, winning 14-7 to earn the championship.
The victory gave Miami its first NFL title. The game had major implications for other teams too: The Redskins were defending champs, while the third-place Oakland Raiders would play host to the NFC East winner - Dallas - if they could beat Buffalo earlier in the day. The Bills were favored by many over the Raiders because of their dominant defense that had never given up more than 14 points all year long.
But it was also important to Miami fans who watched their team win the division crown with a 5-3 record. It appeared the Dolphins were ready to go all the way again even after losing two games by wide margins (one being to Baltimore, who would later move to Maryland).
After the kickoff, Miami got on the board first when WR Jimmy Smith returned the opening kick 100 yards for a touchdown. This was the first playoff game ever played in California and the crowd went wild as if it were any other regular season game.
