As a member of the United States national team, he won two gold medals in the Summer Olympics in 2008 and 2012. For the film Dear Basketball, he received the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2018. (2017). Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. He was 26 years old.
Kobe never played in the NBA, but he did play one game for the Philadelphia 76ers in 1996. He scored 19 points this game which was not enough to win against the New Jersey Nets.
In 2007, Bryant became the first player to score 100 points in a playoff game when he did it against the Toronto Raptors. The Lakers went on to win that series 4-1.
Bryant's death has been cited as a reason why no other player has been able to break Jerry West's record of 10 championships. Though Michael Jordan and Larry Bird have both tried, they failed to bring home the trophy due to injuries.
Before becoming an athlete, Bryant grew up in poverty in Saginaw, Michigan. His parents divorced when he was young, and he used basketball to help him get through school. He dropped out of high school after just one season to join a professional team in Japan. There he made almost $10 million over three seasons. After that, he came back to America and started working with Nike.
Bryant, the retired Los Angeles Lakers basketball player, was murdered when his helicopter crashed into a fog-shrouded hill outside Calabasas, Calif., erupting in flames on Jan. 26, 2020. Mr. , the pilot, and everyone else on board died. It was their third trip together as a family.
Mr. Bryant's death was confirmed by his wife, Vanessa, who wrote on her Facebook page that she was "completely devastated" by the news. She said the couple had three children: Gianna Maria Bronzetti, a junior guard for the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA; Bianka Rose Bryant, a freshman at the University of Southern California; and Kobe Jr., a 16-year-old high school student athlete.
She added that the family would be holding a news conference on Saturday morning Pacific time (Sunday evening Eastern).
According to CNN, which first reported the story, police said there were no signs of foul play involved in the crash. However, they also said it may take several days before they can determine what caused the helicopter to crash.
Mr. Bryant spent his entire career with the Lakers, retiring after the 2015 season. He is one of only four players in NBA history to score 100 points in a game five times in their career. The other three are Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant.
Bryant, 41, won five NBA titles and spent his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He went straight to the NBA after graduating from Lower Merion High School. "We can confirm that Kobe Bryant died today as a result of the effects of a helicopter accident," the Lakers said in a statement released on Twitter. "The family would like to thank you for all of your prayers and thoughts."
Bryant was considered one of the greatest players in NBA history. He is also one of only three people to score 50 or more points in a game while shooting 100 percent from the field (the other two are Moses Malone and Wilt Chamberlain). He was named MVP three times, won the scoring title six times, and helped lead the Lakers to the playoffs every year he played.
Bryant joined the Lakers in 1996 as a 17-year-old rookie out of high school. He immediately made an impact by averaging 28.4 points per game to go with 6.1 rebounds last season, when he returned from an Achilles' tendon injury that forced him to miss the last part of the 2013-14 season. This past June 8, the day before his 40th birthday, Bryant scored 81 points against his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers. He finished the game with 13 rebounds as the Lakers beat Philly 117-110.
Bryant's wife and three children were among those on board when his death was confirmed by authorities.
Bryant wanted to win in basketball and in life, and he achieved so. He was hell-bent on being the greatest basketball player of all time. His work ethic was ridiculous, and he would spend time training without a basketball on the floor. He didn't want to be like other players who just want to go for the glory at any cost.
As far as why he chose to play in Philadelphia, it's because of how much support he got from fans across the country. In addition, James Worthy, one of his mentors, was from Philadelphia. There were also jobs available in cities such as Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, but none offered as much money as what Philadelphia was able to offer him. Also, Bryant liked the idea of playing for his hometown team - the 76ers.
In high school, he played on a team with two guys who went on to become NBA stars - Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. This helped attract attention from college coaches, and by the end of his senior year, he had made the decision to continue playing basketball instead of going to college.
After graduating from high school, he spent three years working with some of the best coaches in the world (including Tex Winter) while trying to figure out what position he could play well. When he finally decided that he would only play center, he became obsessed with getting into the NBA.
He was only the sixth individual in history to go straight from high school to the NBA, skipping college to focus on his talent. NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were only two of the nine individuals killed in a helicopter crash in Southern California on January 26, 2020. The other victims included Gianna's sister, Sarah; her fiancé, Christian Uso; and Bryan Cawley, who worked for the helicopter company that owned the aircraft. There were also three others injured in the accident.

In 2004, he joined forces with former friend Shaquille O'Neal to form a sports apparel line called "Big Baller Brand." In 2013, Bryant founded the Kobe Foundation, which aims to improve education opportunities for children in need by providing resources such as laptops and science labs.
