Steinbrenner Field is where the Yankees practice. Beginning Thursday, Feb. 20, spectators will be able to watch the Yankees practice in the main stadium at Steinbrenner Field. The gates to Steinbrenner Field will open at 10:00 a.m., and the ballpark will stay open until the completion of the exercise.
The public is allowed into the stadium during batting practices and games. In addition to watching baseball, visitors can also take in a concert or theater performance at Steinbrenner Field. There are no charges for entering the stadium and viewing the activity from the stands.
If you want to see how players hit before Game 2 of the American League Division Series, this is your chance. During the regular season, the Yanks played 22 home games at Yankee Stadium, including seven against other AL teams. They also had five series away from New York, three against division opponents and two with non-division foes.
The last time the Yanks played a full season in New York was 2003. That year they won 107 games while losing only 73 on their way to a World Series title over the Red Sox. In 2001, they finished second in the AL East with a record of 90-72. In 2000, they were 89-73. In 1999, they were again second with a 92-70 record. In 1998, they made it to the World Series for just the third time in franchise history but lost to the Indians 4-3.
The Steinbrenner/Legends Field in Tampa is located at 1 Steinbrenner Drive. It's only a 30-minute drive from TradeWinds, down I-275 and over the Gandy or Howard Franklin Bridge, which will take you right to the front gates, making a Yankees Spring Training game the ideal afternoon escape from the beach.
The stadium has 26,000 square feet of indoor seating and an outdoor playing field that can be used for baseball, softball, or soccer. There are also tennis courts, a swimming pool, a health club, and a spa available to guests.
Tickets range from $10 for standing room only access to various games throughout the season to $150 for box seats behind home plate. Legends Field is not as big as some other major league stadiums, so there should be no problem finding a seat if you get there early enough.
The atmosphere at a spring training game is very relaxed, and there are usually no tickets required. Just show up about an hour before game time to pick up a free ticket (which will have your name on it) or wait in line like everyone else. If you arrive late, however, you won't be allowed into the stadium.
In addition to the regular season games played by the New York Yankees, the Tampa Bay Rays hold their own spring training in Port Charlotte, about an hour away from downtown Tampa.

Tampa, Florida— George M. Steinbrenner Field, inspired by the architecture of Yankee Stadium, debuted in 1996 and continues to serve as the New York Yankees' spring training home, as well as the home field for the organization's Advanced A club, the Tampa Tarpons (renamed before the 2018 season, formerly the Tampa Yankees). The stadium is named after George M. Steinbrenner, the son of Major League Baseball's most famous family member, who died in a 1991 car accident at the age of 19.
The facility features a pair of 66-foot high by 250-foot wide aluminum and steel beams that run the length of the stadium behind the batter's box. These beams are part of a $10 million project that also includes new seating and remodeled visitor parking areas.
In addition to serving as the spring training home of the Yankees, George M. Steinbrenner Field is also used for other events, including concerts, college football games, and international baseball tournaments. The venue can seat up to 50,000 people for baseball games.
